The two foremost disciplinary fields responsible for material advancements are Material Science and Material Engineering.
Why do we even study materials?
Well, it is inevitable that in the career of an Engineer or Scientist, he or she will be exposed to a design problem involving materials.
Examples might involve the design of a new high-temperature forming tool, or the design of a new super truck.
Material science investigates the relationship between a material’s atomic structure and its inherent properties, and it is the role of the material scientist to develop new materials.
Concurrently, the role of a materials engineer is to create new products, or systems using existing materials, and to develop techniques for processing these materials.
